The Fun and Games - Elephant Candy

More bubblegum pop, this time courtesy of The Fun and Games. Listening to the lyrics I get the sneaking suspicion that Elephant Candy is either some sort of elicit substance or a euphemism for knockin' boots, or possibly a euphemism for knockin' boots while on some elicit substance. Then again maybe these guys were just really fond of the concessions stand at their local zoo. Maybe I'm just too suspicious.

Yes! -- Elephant Candy deserves a place in the Bubblegum top 10.

I remember hearing a story about this stuff called elephant candy, i.e. elephant tranquilizers making the rounds back then. In the song there's actual mention of the correct way to take it, clues to the potency of elephant candy. In the lines "I'll give some and one bite and it's easier than "one, two, three" referring to the very small amounts one should take. Now that must have been some strong stuff!

But I am still trying to figure out what the heck a "little black egg" is?

This is definitely one of my bubblegum favorites. It is hard to get out of your head once you've heard it.

I like to think "Little Black Egg" is really just about a little black egg, because--if you think about it--it's really a lot weirder that way than if it's some obscure drug reference.

One of these days I'm goin going to put up "Dong-Dong-Diki-Di-Ki-Dong" by The Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus and "Finders Keepers" by Salt Water Taffy, maybe something by Capt. Groovy and His Bubblegum Army, and The Rock and Roll Dubble Bubble Trading Card Company of Philadelphia. Maybe even something by Professor Morrison's Lollipop. Those guys never got the credit they deserved.
